Hailing from Columbia, MS (Marion County), Mikel is a proud graduate of Tougaloo College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in political science. She also holds a master’s in criminology and justice services from Jackson State University. Her passion for grassroots organizing is not just a job but a calling that inspires and motivates others.
Mikel is not new to organization; she has been a dedicated advocate and organizer since before arriving at Tougaloo College. Mikel’s personal motto, which she lives by, is “Life is a series of beginnings, not endings. ” She firmly believes that when we face challenges, we might be tempted to give up or feel that there are no other options. However, this motto serves as a powerful reminder that we must not surrender. Each day we are here is another chance to fight, dream, and pursue our goals.
Mikel is a proud member of the Jackson (MS) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc. Mikel is also a two-time self-published author and the proud founder of The Humble Change, Inc., an organization dedicated to ensuring youth have full support and opportunities as they continue on their journeys either as students or aspiring entrepreneurs.
