Sarah McManus

Sarah McManus is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Teach For America Detroit, where she is committed to driving systems change in education. Prior to this role, she worked in the Mayor’s Office of Education Innovation in Indianapolis, where she oversaw the academic performance of a portfolio of charter schools. Sarah began her career as a Teach For America corps member, teaching high school English in Indianapolis for four years. As a former educator, she believes in the power of communication and connection as the gateway to student success.

Outside of work, Sarah stays grounded through fitness, particularly running and practicing hot yoga. She completed a 200-hour Hot Power Vinyasa yoga teacher training in 2021 and has centered her Civic Action Plan for the Change Collective on bringing yoga into schools. Yoga is a powerful tool for mindfulness, healing, and emotional release, which can be incredibly beneficial for both students and educators alike.

Sarah holds a Master of Arts in teaching from Marian University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Connecticut.
